Yao Ming gave out 8,000 fortune cookies to promote first game at The Miami Heat

The Chinese are not what you would exactly call tall, but a Chinese basketball player – one of the very few – and one who graced the NBA made a mark by becoming the tallest active player in the NBA. He stood at 7 feet 6 inches and held that mantle until his retirement!

Yao-Ming Ming was born in Shanghai measuring eleven pounds, and this was double your average Chinese toddler’s weight. He perhaps inherited the basketball genes from his parents who both happened to be basketball players.

Ming made his way to Miami in 2002 to play for the Heats. To boost the attention the game received, they went a step further and gave out 8,000 fortune cookies! It may seem insensitive but Ming didn’t seem to mind it, after all, he had never heard of a fortune cookie. Only Shaquille O’Neal stole the limelight from the event with his remarks later on: ‘Tell Yao Ming, Ching chong-yang-wah-ah-soh!’
